Good value for Taormina, which is otherwise very pricey. They did family rooms with sea views. Own entrance with own key. Private parking (at cost). Beautiful view. Excellent breakfast.
Neither of these points are the hotel's fault! However, it's at the beach, rather than in the old town, so the considerable cost of the cable-car has to be factored in as you may not want to do the steep walk up and down the cliff at night. Sharp shingle beach, so bring flip-flops or similar.

Mendolia Beach Hotel - Taorminafrom United StatesOlder travelersAugust 20168.2Fabulous
MBH is a family-run 1950's hotel with a dozen or so rooms just above the beach, A walk down a set of steps across the road takes you to the Mendolia Beach club, a seperate facility on the sand with beach chairs and a restaurant/bar. It is a five minute walk to the cable car which goes up to the town center of Taormina. This is one of the best values we experienced in Italy. The reason is the room. We loved our room. If you can handle a short flight of stairs after the topmost elevator floor, reserve room 129. It is a small corner suite with separate sitting room with complete kitchenette, bathroom and small bedroom. It offers a spectacular view of the bay from it's private balcony, with the bonus of a side patio complete with a dining table. This room is exactly what we envisioned when we planned our trip to the Amalfi coast and Taormina. Breakfast buffet was average to good. Typical variety of (too good) pastries, cereal, ham, cheese, etc. Hats off also to the ever-present, friendly and helpful Mario, who was a delight.
Like many rooms in Italy, the shower was small and drains very slowly and despite our bes efforts, always got the floor wet. The room has it's own 20 gallon (or so) hot water tank, so long showers for two people in a row are out. The sitting room has two day beds to sit on instead of a couch or comfortable chair. Understand the reason for this. Just saying...

Nice place, nice hotel. Far from city center, but funicular is just one block (5 minutes) away. Quite many nice restaurants available all around (by the beach).
We had to carry your luggages one floor up by stairs (our room was a quadruple one and has an independent entrance). Other kinds of room have elevator available.

I loved this hotel. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The view is spectacular and although the road is just below it was not too busy or noisy. The breakfast was great with lots of choice. I recommend the cakes and of course the cappuccino served with a smile. The price was very reasonable considering the location and included use of the Beach Club. The swimming was great. I agonized about where to stay on this trip but was very pleased we chose to stay below in Mazzaro. It was tranquil compared to Taormina but only a three minute walk to the cable car to town.
It was all good.

The position of the hotel and balcony room, the breakfast and efficient and friendly breakfast man. The use of the beach club. Proximity to the cable car up to the town. Good nearby restaurants.

The hotel is in a beautiful location and also close to the funicular up to the city. The breakfast was outstanding. The staff was very helpful and worked with us when we had a miscommunication about the original reservation. They made a stressful situation come to a satisfactory conclusion. I enjoyed our stay and only wish it was longer.

Mendolia Beach Hotel - Taorminafrom United StatesSingleMay 20167.4Very good
Had an appartment on 4th floor, great view of isola bella with a terrace and a balcony.
Shower a bit tight, beach facilities though good, staff weren't helpful or friendly. I got up and walked away from the beach restaurant having been ignored for 15 minutes....i.e. use the sun beds but not the restaurant.

We travelled with two children and my mother to the Mendolia for the last week of July.We were all delighted with our rooms. We had a junior suite, two generous rooms, one with a fully equiped kitchen, great air con,and a beautiful terrace on which to eat or read. All rooms had spectacular views of the Isola Bella. The breakfast every morning was very substantial and served by the lovely Mario, the Mendolia Beach area had plenty of space ,beds and umbrellas and had some of the best snorkelling i've ever tried, like swimming in an aquarium! Food at the beach was lovely either at the restaurant or self service, to your sunbed.Access to Taormina by cablecar was close by and fun, I would be delighted to recommend this hotel to anyone.
